This season we had a record number of 33 participants in our Milo In2 Cricket program. This was up from 15 the previous season & our previous highest total of 23. Well done to Garry Neville for running the program for the first four years. We had an even spread of 5-10 year olds from kinder to grade 4 including 3 girls. We conducted the program for 10 weeks from early October to mid December. It was encouraging to see the improvement in skill & confidence in all the kids over the 10 weeks. A strong In2 Cricket program is important for the club as it gets children interested in cricket from an early age. Players can then feed into the juniors who in turn feed into the senior club. It is pleasing to see a certain number of children following older siblings and fathers into the club. Who knows we could have a couple of future A Grade premiership players in 10 years time in Milo Cricket right now. Thanks to the parents who helped out each week, however I really need an assistant who is available every week. Next season we will run the program on a Thursday afternoon, so if there are any senior players who are available to help out before training from 4.15 to 5.30pm please ring me on 0407849771.
This season the NTCA conducted an Under 10s program for the first time. It was designed as a stepping stone between Milo In2 Cricket & the big gap to the Under 12s. All clubs and In2 Cricket centres were invited to participate. Six teams from Hadspen, Launceston, South Launceston, St Pats & two from West Tamar participated on January 18th & 25th. We played 3 games each day of 8 overs, where everyone bowled one over & each pair batted for two overs. The team with the highest total of runs won the game. Wickets were only taken into account if scores were level and the team which lost the less wickets were declared the winners. No balls & wides gave the batsman a free hit from a batting cone. Our Hadspen players were fantastic and represented the club with great enthusiasm & sportsmanship. We won one game and were very competitive in all six. Our team of 9 consisted of 3 8yo, 3 9yo & 3 10yo including 3 girls. We competed exceptionally well against much older & stronger competition including some teams consisting of all 10yo boys who bowled a lot faster than the our players were used to. Our players relished the challenge and gave it their best. I was very proud of all of them.
Congratulations to the club on its outstanding results this year with the A Grade & A Reserve premiership.
