Opening round of the season seen A reserve travel to the new home ground of the diggers in Hagley, The ground was in great nick although a little wet from the morning dew the not before
We won the toss and elected to bat, not an ideal first over when Turbo Holland was run out without facing a ball. We made it to 3-50 at drinks with wickets in the shed had a solid platform to build on, However after drinks we failed to bat out our 40 over’s and was all out for 98 in the 35th over
Brad Moore and Dav both made scores in the 20’s, However we didn’t achieve what we set out to do and that was to bat the full 40 overs.
Alex Suitor opened the bowling and bowled very well by claiming the 1st wicket in the 3rd over and bowled out his 8 over’s for figures of 1-26, Simon Clay also bowled very well in claiming the other 2 wickets. The Diggers reached the target in the 33rd over and finishing up on 3/99.
The fielding could not be faulted and the bowling pressure was great. However this time of year we needed to bat out the 40 over’s and we may have seen a different result. It’s something we will need to work on at training Thursday nights and we will bounce back next week and learn from this game moving forward.
One last thing a particular Player (no names mentioned, but he stands around 4 foot 9 and has short arms and fingers to match) failed to bring his clothing. He will be reminded of this on a regular basis!!
